Montmartre: A Cinematic Freeze in Occupied Paris
In the heart of Montmartre, a film set lies abandoned after the onset of the coronavirus lockdown. Facades of corset shops, tailors, and a shoe repairer, along with a mirror-maker's display, remain untouched, interspersed with haunting reminders of war propaganda, anti-communist tracts, and German signage. This eerie tableau was created for Adieu Monsieur Haffmann, directed by Fred Cavayé, an adaptation of an award-winning play that tells the poignant story of Joseph Haffmann, a Jewish jeweller forced to hide in his shop's cellar as the Nazis tighten their grip on Paris.
